Are you on the Twitter? Do you tweet often, or do you enjoy just reading tweets? How do you decide who to follow?
When I hear of someone who sounds fascinating (two of my latest are illustrator Jessica Hische and artist Julie Fei-Fan Balzer) I'll go to the web site and look for two things: a Twitter link and a Pinterest link. If she has both Twitter and Pinterest and the accounts are active, I get very happy.
If I happen upon a tweet a random tweet that is hilarious or spot on or both
(like when Elizabeth McCracken tweeted: "The next time I hear someone shriek "LOVE IT" in a public place, I'm going to shriek back, "UNCLEAR ANTECEDENT!"and I scrambled to click Follow because that was golden.)
- I'll click to find out more. If most of the tweets are @replies I usually don't look much further.
If his entire Twitter stream is simply links to his posts from his blogs or that he liked a YouTube video or pinned something, I pass.
Do you automatically re-follow? I'm a discerning follower. For a while, my Twitter bio talked about much I love, love, love books, any books, and while that's true, I noticed I was getting an awful lot of follows by people whose bios simply read the name of their book and a web address, which told me they were going to be blatant self promoters, and worse: boring blatant self promoters.
My current Twitter bio says that I'm eating an apple instead of M&Ms. That is actually not always true.
Do you have a favorite Twitterer? Do tell!
